Department of chemistry was initiated in September 1934 as a result of dividing from the department of chemistry and biology established on January 1933 by initiative of professor Dibrova A.A. Professor Dibrova A.A. was the head of department until Autumn of 1945. In the early days three employees worked at the department: head of department Dibrova A.A., one assistant. 1936 year was memorable in life of department, as the first specialists of chemistry and biology fields graduated from a University. That year gifted graduates Osimov Z.S. and Ataev A.A. was employed at department of chemistry and biology. In Autumn of 1939 department of chemistry divided into two independent departments: department of general and inorganic chemistry and department of organic chemistry. In 1940 this department joined again as department of chemistry. With the beginning of Great Patriotic War teachers of department – Alizoda M.A., Osimov Z.S., Raupov B.N., Mavzutov R. and other voluntarily went to war for defense of Homeland. In 1952-56 department was led by Sulaimonov A.S., in 1956-63 – Alizoda M.A., 1963-73 – Qosimov H.K., 1973-75 – Karimov R.K., 1975-80 – Muhiddinov M., 1980-93 – Khakimhujaev N., 1993-95 – Okhunov R.

In 1996 department of chemistry again divided into two independent departments: department of general chemistry and its study methods and department of organic chemistry. In 1996-99 department of general chemistry and its study methods was led by associate professor Okhunov R., 1999-2004 – associate professor Khakimhujaev N. and from 2004 up to half of 2012 by professor Okhunov R. At present, the head of department is Ph.D. in Pedagogy Akhmedova Z.S. Currently, experienced specialists and specialist with degree, such as Ph.D. in chemistry, associate professors – Saburov M.I., Nasriddinov Kh.M., Kobilov N. (part-time employee), Ph.D. in Pedagogy, Associate professor – Akhmedova Z.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry, senior teacher Julieva G.H., senior teacher Okhunova U.R. are performing their activities in the department of general chemistry and its study methods. It should be emphasized that members of department carry out research and scientific works. In addition, currently, teachers of department are engaged in methodic works and developed and published several study guides.
